Dawson Creek, BC to Fort Nelson, BC

Day 9 – June 8, 2010
Mileage today: 482
Total trip mileage: 3,342

Woke up to rain, again. Not a lot, but just enough to make for a real uninspiring morning. On top of that, the netbook was being very stubborn about connecting to the internet. Naturally I assumed the worst and went on a mad search to find an external wireless net card. No luck finding anything in Dawson Creek, the WalMart there doesn’t even open til 9, so we loaded up all our gear and headed out, hoping to find somewhere along the way to get a net card. Got to the next town (Ft. St. John) and they had a Staples office supply store. Yep, a Staples. Right off the Alaskan Highway. I don’t know why that seemed weird to me, but it did/does.

My purchase:

After Ft. St. John things really start to stretch out. Towns space out to every 50 miles or so, and the scenery leaves a bit to be desired.

Gas stop:

Passing the time:

When we arrived in Ft. Nelson we ate at the A&W’s where we scouted out our route. Nothing was real near, and this was our 9th day out camping, so we pondered our options. Looking out the window, I noticed a Super 8 motel with a huge sign that said “waterslide”. We needed to look no further.
True luxury! With space to set up the tent and let it dry out.

I do not have any pics of the water slide, but it was all it was advertised to be and a bit more.
